Video capabilities

For filmmakers, the camera offers exceptional video capabilities and an integrated workflow with Cinema EOS technology. You can capture stunning 8K RAW and MP4 footage at 60 frames per second, resulting in a cinematic masterpiece. Alternatively, you have the option to shoot in 4K at an impressive 120 frames per second, allowing for buttery smooth slow-motion in high-resolution quality. Thanks to the camera’s advanced CFexpress card support, you can record 8K video internally without any crop factor. Additionally, a second port is available for SD cards, providing you with flexible storage options.

For content creators, the camera features a tele lamp for peace of mind, internal recording for longer shoots or varied video formats, and dual shooting to record full HD video and 33.2MP stills simultaneously. Plus, the camera’s continuous autofocus with eye and face tracking features further assist the run-and-gun style filmmaker, ensuring your subjects remain in sharp focus even during dynamic shooting scenarios.

16+ stops of dynamic range, as well as colour space and gamma curves, allow you to customise the colour output for different situations.

VR playback

Review VR footage in-camera, in a format equivalent to one-eye viewing with VR goggles.

45MP Sensor

The new full-frame back-illuminated stacked dual-pixel CMOS AF sensor works alongside a DIGIC X processor and a DIGIC accelerator to produce a fast readout, quick autofocus, and improvements from the R5 in image quality.

Quick and accurate AF

Three key autofocus technologies, including action priority, registered people, and eye control AF give the EOS R5 II precise tracking through objects and accurate focus representation.

The action priority uses deep learning AI with advanced action recognition to track common actions such as player movements during sports photography or the first dance at a wedding, so you never miss an important moment. The registered people feature logs up to 10 faces with priority order, so you can ensure your intended subjects are in focus. This further helps during post-production when looking for shots with a specific person in. Eye control AF within this camera is both accurate and reliable with a 2-times increase in detection speed than previous models.

The previous 1 to 4 servo AF cases have been integrated into one combined auto case for user ease, with the capability to work with each AF function.

The dual-pixel intelligent AF system works with 6144 AF zones to capture every moment with quick, smooth, and consistent focus. While using autofocus, detect priority automatic exposure is possible, to automatically calculate settings, including aperture, shutter speed, and ISO for a correctly exposed image.

High-quality image

You are also able to upscale and crop an image to 4x the initial resolution in camera without any loss in image quality. Deep learning supports a noise reduction of 2 stops for near-silent recording, while 8.5 stops of IBIS aid in handheld videography.

Additionally, the increase in metering zones, combined with their smaller size for increased accuracy leads to precision metering with the R5 II. This allows for precise exposure control so you can meter for a specific subject or highlight within the scene.

A minimal rolling shutter preserves the shape and detail of a subject’s features such as wings, balls, or rackets so that the final images are visually appealing and true to movement.

Rapid shooting

Capture up to 30fps with a completely silent electronic shutter with speeds of 1/64000 seconds, a blackout-free viewfinder, and a customisable continuous shooting speed.

The pre-continuous shooting feature begins shooting at 15 frames with continuous buffering when the shutter release is half-pressed and is written to the memory card when you take the shot. This ensures you capture fast-paced moments with as little human delay as possible.

Seamless connection

Enjoy a connected workflow with WIFI 6E & 2.5 base-t ethernet (2.5GM ethernet transfer only available when using the new grip). Plus, an FTP multi-thread allows you to transfer 2 images at a time for speedier use while the camera control API enables PC, smartphone or tablet control.

Solid build

The R5 II’s design is dust- and water-resistant, as well as weighing only 656g (weighed without the battery and memory card) for adventurous content creation. The construction also includes two memory card slots, one for CFexpress and one for SD compatibility.
