Canon R8 Mark II Body
The Canon R8 Mark II Body is a portable full-frame camera created for travel photography, everyday storytelling and hybrid content production. Its combination of a high-resolution sensor, in-body stabilisation and responsive subject tracking supports photographers working across changing locations, light levels and subject types.
24.2-megapixel full-frame image quality
A 36.0 x 24.0mm CMOS sensor captures approximately 24.2 effective megapixels, helping to produce detailed photographs with the depth and perspective associated with full-frame imaging. The DIGIC X processor supports an ISO range of 100 to 102,400 for still photography, expandable to ISO 50 and 204,800.
Up to 7.5 stops of sensor-shift stabilisation
Built-in sensor-shift image stabilisation provides up to 7.5 stops of compensation at the centre and 7 stops towards the edge of the frame when used under Canon’s specified test conditions. Coordinated control with compatible lens-based optical stabilisation can help produce sharper handheld photographs and steadier footage while travelling or working in low light.
Fast shooting with pre-continuous capture
The electronic shutter supports continuous shooting at up to 40fps, while the electronic first-curtain shutter reaches up to 6fps. Pre-continuous shooting can record up to 20 images before the shutter button is fully pressed, offering additional frames when photographing unpredictable movement, fleeting expressions or fast action.
Intelligent Dual Pixel CMOS AF II
Dual Pixel CMOS AF II provides subject detection and tracking across people, animals and vehicles. Supported subjects include human eyes, faces, heads and bodies, dogs, cats, birds, horses, racing cars, motorbikes, aircraft and trains, making the camera adaptable to portraits, wildlife, transport and travel photography.
Detailed 4K and high-frame-rate video
The Canon EOS R8 Mark II records 4K UHD footage at up to 59.94p or 50p, with standard full-width 4K generated through 6K oversampling. Full HD recording is available at frame rates up to 179.82p or 150p, while Slow and Fast Motion modes provide further control over the pace of travel films and creative sequences.
Flexible colour and video workflows
Sixteen adjustable colour filters are available for stills and movies, including NegativeFilmtone, PositiveFilmtone and several story, retro and tonal options. More advanced workflows are supported through Canon Log 3, HLG, PQ, Custom Picture settings and internal 10-bit 4:2:2 recording in compatible formats.
Compact controls and clear viewing
The body weighs approximately 499g without a battery or memory card and measures approximately 131.4 x 90.0 x 79.7mm. Composition is handled through a 2.36-million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder or a 3.0-inch, 1.62-million-dot touchscreen with approximately 170-degree horizontal and vertical viewing angles.
Wireless transfer, remote control and streaming
Dual-band IEEE 802.11ac Wi-Fi supports both 5GHz and 2.4GHz connections, accompanied by Bluetooth 5.3. These connections enable compatible image transfers, remote operation and access to services including image.canon, while the USB-C connection supports communication, charging, power and compatible UVC/UAC streaming.
RF system compatibility
The Canon EOS R8 Mark II accepts Canon RF and RF-S lenses. Canon EF and EF-S lenses can also be used with a compatible Mount Adapter EF-EOS R, while EF-M lenses are not compatible.

FAQs
What is the difference between the Canon EOS R8 Mark II and Canon EOS R8?
The Canon EOS R8 Mark II builds on the EOS R8 with upgrades including sensor-shift image stabilisation, pre-continuous shooting and a larger buffer for electronic continuous shooting. It keeps the compact full-frame approach of the R8 while adding features aimed at handheld shooting and fast-moving subjects.
Does the Canon EOS R8 Mark II have IBIS?
Yes. Unlike the original EOS R8, the EOS R8 Mark II features sensor-shift image stabilisation (IBIS), helping to reduce the effects of camera shake when shooting handheld.
Which lenses are compatible with the Canon EOS R8 Mark II?
The Canon EOS R8 Mark II uses the Canon RF mount. RF and RF-S lenses attach directly, while Canon EF and EF-S lenses can be used with a compatible EF-EOS R mount adapter. EF-M lenses are not compatible.
Is the Canon EOS R8 Mark II good for video?
Yes. The EOS R8 Mark II is designed for both photography and video, with advanced autofocus, built-in stabilisation and high-frame-rate recording. It can record Full HD at up to 179.82p or 150p for smooth slow-motion footage.
Is the Canon EOS R8 Mark II good for travel?
Weighing approximately 499g, the EOS R8 Mark II offers full-frame performance in a relatively lightweight body. Its compact design, IBIS, subject-detection autofocus and wireless connectivity make it well suited to travel, street photography and everyday shooting.
Does the Canon EOS R8 Mark II come with a lens?
This Canon EOS R8 Mark II is sold as a body-only camera, so a lens is not included. It can be paired with Canon RF or RF-S lenses, or compatible EF and EF-S lenses when using an EF-EOS R mount adapter.
