Description

Nikon ZR with 24-70mm f4 Lens

The Nikon ZR is the world’s first Nikon-Red camera. It is a revolutionary cine camera designed for entry-level videographers who want to take on ambitious projects. Using the latest partially-stacked sensor, this full-frame camera can shoot up to 6K60P RAW video with impressive detail. Make the most of RED’s unique colour science displayed on the large 4-inch LCD screen, and phenomenal audio with 31-bit float recording. A stand-alone camera with uncompromised results, the Nikon ZR requires very little reliance on accessories, making this the ultimate compact cinema camera.

RED Colour Science

The Nikon ZR is the first Nikon-RED camera. This comes with a huge advantage over other entry-level cinema cameras: it uses the same renowned RED colour science as pro-grade RED cameras. This means the same RAW, LUT and LOG profiles, giving you the very best image quality at an entry-level price.

Using this RedWideGamutRGB colour space, with the option to shoot at Log3G10 Curve or R3D NE for 12-bit RAW in-camera recording, means that the results are consistent across all Nikon and RED devices. This makes the Nikon ZR an ideal B or C cam within a RED set-up.

Shoot RAW In-Camera, 3 Ways

The Nikon ZR offers seven in-camera formats, including three RAW, that allow you to choose between the highest quality and the highest efficiency.

r3D NW / N-RAW / ProRes RAW – Most quality. 12-bit. 68 billion colours.

ProRes422 / HQ H.265 – Most balanced. 10-bit. 1 billion colours.

H.265 / H.264 – Most compressed. 8-bit. 16 million colours.

These multiple formats offer a wide range of choices that make the ZR suitable for all types of videography, from pro-grade cinema to off-the-cuff vlogging.

15+ Dynamic Range

Exposure is easy with the ZR, it has a dynamic range up to 15+ stops (more than the Z6III) and a dual base ISO of 800 or 6400.

Find Your Motion with Flexible Framerates

The Nikon ZR has a highly flexible range of framerates to choose from. Top settings include 6K60p (RAW), 4K120p (RAW) and FHD 240p, all of which allow for incredible quality and the opportunity to film dynamic slow motion.

Importable LUTs

Ensure on-set footage looks exactly how you intend it to by importing up to ten of your own LUTs into the camera. Filming with LUTs does not impact the raw data of the footage, but shows you, at the moment it counts most, what the video will look like in post-production.

Cinematic RED Presets

As well as recording with RED’s unique colour science, the Nikon ZR is compatible with RED presets for cinematic footage straight out of the camera, no post-processing required. There are four cinematic presets to choose from, including Cinematic, Slow Motion, Portrait and Starscape. As well as nine downloadable presets from RED, including looks such as Achromatic, Film Bias and Bleach Bypass.

These presets are easy to use and can be changed at the switch of a button, making them excellent for event videography such as weddings, where switching between slow motion and real-time quickly can be incredibly important.

32-Bit Float Audio – A World First

The Nikon ZR is the world’s first camera to feature in-body 32-bit float audio. This revolutionary inclusion makes the ZR an excellent entry-level camera, and ideal for interviews, movies and concerts, as 32-bit audio is easier to recover if conditions aren’t ideal or the wrong settings have been used. For more advanced videographers, recording with 32-bit float allows much more flexibility and creativity when it comes to audio effects and subtle tuning.

Realistic and Immersive Sound

Within the camera are three MEMS mics and OZO audio technology with a 72dB signal-to-noise ratio. These microphones can pick up sound in five directional patterns to either create immersive surround sound or highly directional audio. The flexibility makes the Nikon ZR suited to almost any cinematography style, from a talking head, to an interview set-up, to an all-encompassing soundscape.

An external microphone might still be opted for, but the audio quality straight out of camera makes the purchase of a mic an upgrade rather than a necessity.

4-Inch Monitor Display

The Nikon ZR has a 4-inch LCD display, the largest in its class*. Not just the largest, it is also the brightest with an impressive 1000 cd/m² brightness level, and the highest resolution* at 3070k. This huge area is not far off the size of an external monitor and allows for maximum control without the need of expensive and bulky accessories.

The ZR’s screen is even DCI-P3 for a stunning colour gamut that will match the look on DCI-P3 monitors – highly popular among video editors. The monitor is also vertically responsive, so if you are recording in vertical orientation, the entire menu system will automatically turn with you.

*As of September 2025.

Cinema Ergonomics

Built as a cinema camera, the Nikon ZR doesn’t have the traditional DSLR/Mirrorless shape. It does not have an EVF, there is no grip, and the camera is flat. What this leaves space for is a range of intuitive controls and mode buttons, which make videography faster and easier. Switch between the regular Nikon Z menu and a new cinema menu, which features touchscreen modes for peaking, zebra, waveform and more.

Sharp and Fast Autofocus

Maintain focus at all times with the Nikon ZR’s fast and accurate autofocus system. It uses the same AF technology as the Z6III to keep up with subject movement with pin-sharp accuracy. The camera’s focus breathing compensation is smooth, working with Z mount lenses to product stunning results.

5 Axis Stabilisation

The Nikon ZR has powerful in-body stabilisation at up to 8-stop vibration reduction on 5-axis. This powerful IBIS ensures stable footage is captured at all times, even when on the move and shooting documentary-style video.

Fanless Design

Record for long lengths of time with no risk of overheating thanks to the efficient heat dissipation technology, which requires no fan. This impressive technology reduces excess noise on set and allows up to 125 minutes of continuous powered recording and 95 minutes of battery-powered recording. The fanless design has an additional benefit of making the ZR completely weather-sealed.

Streamlined Workflow

Streamline your workflow with direct access to Frame.io. When working with Frame.io clips are transferred straight from your camera to the cloud system for instant access to other members of your film crew. It’s perfect for off-site editing, scene approval and more.

Outstanding Image Quality

Despite being a film camera first, the Nikon ZR is also a highly capable stills camera. With a 24.5MP sensor (the same as the Z6III), the camera can take full frame images with up to 7.5-stops of vibration reduction and down to -10EV sensitivity. In fact, apart from the removal of the electronic viewfinder and mechanical shutter, the Nikon ZR and Z6III are matched for photographic specifications.

Practical in the Field

Film with confidence in all environments, the Nikon ZR is fully weather sealed thanks to the fanless design leaving no gaps for rain, snow and dust. The camera records to a CFexpress Type B slot and a MicroSD card slot*, the CFexpress in particular for fast read speeds demanded of RAW video capture.

*Please note, MicroSD cards are able to record RAW footage.

Nikon Z 24-70mm F4 S Lens

The NIKKOR Z 24-70mm F4 S Lens offers edge-to-edge sharpness, fast autofocus, and versatile framing for both stills and video. Its compact, weather-sealed design makes it the ideal companion for hybrid creators on the move.
