New Deep-Learning Autofocus

The Sony a7R V uses deep-learning artificial intelligence to power its immense real-time autofocus abilities. 693 autofocus points are densely packed across the entire 61-megapixel sensor to ensure the most reliable and accurate focusing yet.

Improved to an unrecognisable level, the AI autofocus has impressive subject recognition that uses human pose estimation to assume where the face and eyes of the subject are, even when the subject is not facing the camera. This pose estimation can recognise and track human joints to build up a picture of the entire human form, presenting the possibility to track like never before.

Animal, Aeroplane, Car and Insect AF Mode

Continuing to feature traditional autofocus modes including Human, Eye & Animal, the Alpha 7RV also includes the more specific modes of Aeroplane, Car, and Insect. These additional AI AF modes present opportunities for enthusiasts and professionals to achieve pinpoint focus on nearly every subject they look to photograph.

The animal-detect mode in particular sees further improvements based on the new deep-learning algorithm. In a similar mode to the human pose estimation, the AI can detect the entire body of cats and dogs, to track their movement across the sensor, ready to snap onto the eye as soon as they are once again visible.

Stunning Image Quality

Using the same 61MP back-illuminated Exmor R Sensor as the Sony a7R IV, this full-frame camera is capable of incredible detail. The new BIONZ XR image processing engine delivers detail and colour to an outstanding quality not yet seen on a camera of this class.

New to the sensor’s capabilities is the RAW file size reduction which allows for the camera to take 61MP, 26MP and 15MP images all with lossless image quality. This is ideal for wildlife and nature enthusiasts who require the APS-C crop for extra reach.

The camera also sees further improvements in its low-light capabilities. With its ISO range of 100-32,000 (expandable up to 102,400), the a7RV camera is able to produce high-quality images even in challenging light. The sensor’s colour reproduction and auto white balance have also been improved for more accurate colours and skin tones within the RAW files.

New 240MP Pixel Shift

Becoming a staple of high-resolution cameras, the Sony a7R V features pixel shift to produce images of 240MP. The camera renders incredible detail from this full-frame sensor, ideal for digital art reproductions or still-life photography. The revolutionary addition of Movement Correction eliminates accidental objects, such as falling leaves, while the image is being captured.

8K & 4K Video Quality

Capture stunning 8K24p and 4K60p video with 10-bit 4:2:2 recording. Sony has doubled the video capabilities of this camera to rival their Cinema Line and to push the R series into the hybrid shooter realm for photographers who want to do it all.

Experience the world through 8K movement, recording in S-Cinetone and S-LOG picture profiles to show the world your point of view. Newly improved heat dissipation allows for an extended record time and increased camera longevity while breathing compensation creates seamless video.

Sony’s Best View Finder and Screen

9.44 million dots make up the viewfinder, making it Sony’s best yet, ensuring that accurate and reliable picture is constantly being transmitted to the viewfinder. The improved 4-axis touch-capable screen features 2096K dots and can be newly tilted for optimal hip-level shooting, as well as for first-person views.

Active Mode IBIS

Unique to the Sony ecosystem, the a7R V features 5-axis optical ln-Built Image Stabilisation (IBIS) that works up to 8-stops with compatible lenses. This level of stabilisation allows for incredibly smooth footage even when using the camera handheld or for long shutter speeds. New Active Mode IBIS works to improve the stabilisation even further, for gimbal-free video work and ultra-smooth footage.

The aluminium body and shutter have been taken directly from the Sony Alpha 1 for professional durability. The a7R V presents the opportunity to shoot with the best gear, creating a new photographic experience. Capture footage to the CFexpress Type A (x1) and UHS-II SDXC/SDHC (x2) card slots. These memory storage slots lead to fast and reliable capture including footage backup.
