Full-frame global shutter image sensor

As a Global shutter camera, there is no longer any need for a mechanical shutter. This exposes and reads every single pixel at the same time for instantaneous shooting of both video and stills with zero distortion. The stacked sensor technology increases sensor readout speed, for superior burst rates. Further to this, the global shutter also allows you to shoot at 120fps with full autofocus and subject recognition, able to shoot for 1.6 seconds (192 frames), even in 14 bit RAW.

Capture every moment

An advanced BIONZ XR processing engine gives you 8x more processing power than the a9 II. With this, the camera can process up to 6GB/s, for autofocus and autoexposure calculations at 120fps. Blackout-free shooting gives you an uninterrupted view through the viewfinder, while pre-capture records prior to and after shutter release, so that you never miss the moment.

Incredible AF

9.44 million-dot EVF and rapid refresh rates work with AI-based autofocus to achieve sharp and clear images, even in the most dynamic shooting environments.

Going beyond just eye and face recognition, this dedicated AI processing unit is able to do human pose estimation, focussing on obscured faces, and subjects that go in and out of the frame. This works with humans, animals, birds, cars, planes, and more.

4K Video

Previsualise angles precisely with the A9III, shooting high-resolution 4K 120fps video without cropping, or producing exceptional 4K image quality thanks to 6K oversampling. Pan back and forth with no distortion. The extended suite of video features also includes 10-bit 4:2:2 All-I, 16-bit Raw output, S-Cinetone and S-Log3, plus Dynamic active Mode stabilisation for gimbal-like stabilisation with only a slight 1.2 crop.

Speed boost

Continuous shooting with speed boost lets you capture specific moments and then file through a video of the captured images so you can find your perfect shot with ease.

Flash sync at 120fps

Flash sync at any and all shutter speeds without having to work around rolling shutter speeds supports full flash output. Sync your camera up however you like, even with third-party flashes.

Flicker-free

Anti-flicker shooting and variable shutter modes eliminate banding and colour differentiation between frames. This works because the camera can see the refresh rate of the light and adjust to capture an image at the peak for every frame in video or still.

Boasting 8 stops of optical in-body image stabilisation frees you up for reframing and repositioning whilst shooting.
