The wide perspective of the lens supports new shooting styles and is able to produce stabilised videos, working with active IS (Image Stabilisation) where the video is cropped. It has great close focusing capabilities, with ratios of 3:2 for stills, 16:9 for movies, and 2.35:1 for cinema; all of which a wide-angle zoom helps to capture the whole shot, fitting the needs of hybrid shooters. Able to record with unrestricted active IS even after a slight crop to 16:9, the movie function performs well in handheld shooting. The additional feature of focus breathing suppression enables smooth transitions and further helps to avoid any camera shake displayed on the video. Focus shift and axis shift qualities are prominent when zooming, lending to more refined imagery with even levels of brightness due to a constant f/4 aperture.
Mobile and ergonomic design
Lightweight at 488g, the 78.7 x 99mm dimensions of this lens make it perfect for portability. Its ergonomic features include a linear manual focus ring which manages to feel analogue, a focus hold button, and an aperture ring to control light levels; plus aperture click, focus mode, and iris lock switches.
