Tamron 28-75mm F/2.8 Di III VXD G2 For Nikon Z

The Tamron 28-75mm F/2.8 Di III VXD G2 For Nikon Z has now been optimised for use with the Nikon Z-mount mirrorless camera range. The lens maintains the same fast aperture as its predecessor, the highly popular 28-75mm F/2.8 Di III RXD, but the new lens boasts a completely redesigned optical system that produces brighter, sharper images.

Improved Optics

The Tamron 28-75mm F/2.8 Di III VXD G2 features redesigned optical elements to further improve the image quality. The lens construction consists of 17 elements in 15 groups and includes a Low Dispersion (LD) and Glass Moulded Aspherical (GM) lens element to minimise optical aberrations. The lens also features 9 circular aperture blades that produce outstanding bokeh effects that are distinctive to fast-aperture lenses.

Enjoy the Silence

The lens comes equipped with Tamron’s VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) autofocus system. This linear motor mechanism is exceptionally responsive and operates at high speeds with great precision so that you never miss that shot. It operates approximately twice as fast as the 1st-generation 28-75mm F/2.8 RXD lens and is very quiet which is particularly important when recording video.

A Great All-Rounder

The 28-75mm focal range of the lens makes it suitable for a range of photographic styles like portraits, landscapes, nature and travel as well as creative close-up shots thanks to its impressive minimum object distance (MOD). At the wide 28mm end the MOD is just 0.18m (7.1”) which is an improvement on the previous lens model. At this end, the maximum magnification ratio is 1:2.7. At the telephoto 75mm end, the MOD is still impressive at 0.38m (15”) and the maximum magnification ratio is 1:4.1.

Compatible with Tamron Lens Utility software, the lens can be customised and have its firmware updated from your computer.

Improved Ergonomics

Among the optical improvements, this 28-75mm F/2.8 lens also has improved ergonomics for smoother operation. The new build incorporates the design that is due to become the hallmark of Tamron lenses in the future. The grip texture on the focusing and zoom rings has been improved by redesigning the striped pattern on the rubber. Additionally, the surface of the lens exterior is shiny black and much glossier than the previous models.

Design & Build

The Tamron 28-75mm F/2.8 Di III VXD G2 weighs just 550g and measures just 119.8mm in length making it both compact and lightweight. The maximum diameter of the lens is 75.8mm and the filter size is 67mm. The lens also features Tamron’s moisture resistant construction as well as a Fluorine Coating on the front lens element so that it can be used in harsh weather conditions.
