The Canon C50 is a cinema-first hybrid camera. It features high-resolution 7K 60p full frame, open gate recording with oversampled 4K. Its Dual Pixel CMOS AF II sensor makes this a powerful choice for any solo creators or small teams. The camera is stacked with professional tools that will place the creator using this camera firmly alongside professional cinematographers.

Cinematic 7K60p Full Frame Video

Record to the highest standard with 7K 60p internal RAW, 4K 120p, 2K 180p and oversampled 4K 10-bit. The Canon C50 has been tested up to 15+ stops of dynamic range in full frame (CLOG2), and 16 stops in Super 35mm mode. 12-bit Open Gate recording in 7K RAW opens up further opportunities for smooth transitions into cinematic reels and shorts, as well as the ability to simultaneously record to a second card in 4K (DCI/UHD) and 2K crop in vertical or square formats.

The C50 can record in Full Frame 3:2 Open Gate / Full Frame / S35mm & S16mm modes.

Fast and Reliable

The C50 is ultra-responsive to autofocus, with enhanced face, eye and animal tracking across 100% of the sensor with Dual Pixel CMOS AF II. Plus, iTR AF X, Detect Only, Focus Guide and custom speed settings keep you sharp and ready.

Designed for Professional Use

This cine camera has been designed to work for you. It features 14 assignable buttons, with over a hundred options for those settings. It comes with a removable top handle for optimal control and includes accessory attachment points for rigability. The handle also has a zoom rocker, audio control dial and a REC button for ease of use during a shoot. Its flat body design is optimal for additional cages, or alternatively, mount accessories via the multiple 1/4 inch screw holes on-camera.

Multiple terminals can be found on the left-hand side, including a full HDMI OUT (type A), a Time Code (DIN), USB-C port, Mic jack, Headphone Port and a Remote Control connector (E3). On the right-hand side, a CFexpress slot and a UHS-II SD card slot are located for dual recording.

Active Heat Management

Despite its compact size, the C50 features powerful heat dissipation for prolonged use. Improved over the R5 C, the internal airflow and front air intake have been redesigned to deliver the professional-grade durability you would expect of a Cinema camera.

Intuitive Control

The multiple REC buttons, located both on the camera (x3) and handle (x1), are found in intuitive places for most handling choices, including the traditional spot, on top of the camera and is also enabled via the front button. Tally lamps are also located on the front and back of the camera, as well as on the handle, for complete satisfaction that the record button has been hit.

Zoom Speed Adjustment

Control the zoom on both the camera and the handle. The zoom rocker speed can be adjusted in the menu settings to control the tone of the zoom. Snap in quickly or emphasise movement by slowing it down.

Dedicated Audio Control

Record audio to the same high quality as your video. The C50 has dedicated audio dials and dual XLR audio inputs for a total of four inputs for versatile sound capture. The handle includes two XLR 3-pin inputs with 48V phantom power as well as independent adjustment of up to two channels at a time.

A multi-function shoe further supports the audio recording, as when a microphone is mounted, the camera supports 2-channel, 24-bit recording. Additionally, when mounted, the camera controls the microphone settings and provides power to the mic, reducing noise for cleaner recording.

Ultimate Streamlined Workflows

Streamline your workflow with integrated data transfer, livestreaming and remote control access. Data transfer is achievable via USB, WiFi or Ethernet for connection to FTP servers and Frame.io, essential for teams working with an editor for a quick turnaround. For on-set monitoring, the livestreaming options are essential, with timecode sync options to stream to a director’s box via an IP or a UVC/UAC.

Cinema in a Small and Lightweight Package

The C50 is the smallest and lightest camera in the Canon Cinema range. Part of this has been achieved by removing the EVF, encouraging users to use the large and bright LCD or an external monitor. The camera weighs just 670 grams, almost half that of the C80. This massively improves mobility on set, even if additional accessories are mounted to build up the rig.

Extended Power Delivery

As well as the LP-E6P battery, the C50 can be powered via battery grip (BG-R20), USB power supply, or a DC coupler and USB power adapter. These various options give you flexibility for run-and-gun shoots or longer, static sets.

A Strong Hybrid Choice

There is no doubt that the Canon C50 is a highly qualified video camera; however, it still has exceptional photo specifications, making it a clever hybrid choice for creators. The dual menu system makes it easy to switch between setting the camera up for Stills or Cinema . For stills, the camera has a 32MP sensor and is fast and responsive. It can do up to 40fps of electronic continuous shooting and pre-continuous shooting, which is excellent for sports and wildlife photography.

RF, EF and PL Lens Compatibility

Lenses are equally important when it comes to creating high-quality cinematography. The Canon C50 is compatible with all RF, EF and PL lenses to suit every production. EF and PL lens adapters (sold separately) are secured via lockable plates to ensure stable use, even when mounting large telephoto lenses.

The Canon C50 is even compatible with virtual reality lenses such as the Canon RF 5.2mm Dual Fisheye lelns. When mounted, real-time lens metadata is recorded to support virtual production and VFX departments. The data is full compatible with Unreal Engine and After Effects to create jaw-dropping stercopic 180º VR.
